St. Vincent de Paul

The mission of this organization is to support clients with food, clothing, utility, prescription, and housing assistance. Due to rising living expenses, our gift will keep the pantry shelves stocked and ensure that those in need will be supported through difficult times. St. Vincent de Paul is located in the basement of St Paul Parish in Owosso. Our donation of $21,000.00 will help support their mission.

Angel’s Hands Community Outreach Inc.

Angel’s Hands Community Outreach Inc. provides clothing, personal care items, household goods, and furniture for as little as $5.00 per visit or free for those who are unable to pay.  Angel’s Hands aims to reach the needs of the community, meet people where they are, and change lives one day at a time.  The organization started 10 years ago in a garage and has since moved into a 4,000 sq ft building in downtown Owosso.  Angel’s Hands is staffed 100% by volunteers. The money will be used to help with the monthly overhead associated with keeping the doors open and the lights on. Our donation of $20,800.00 will help support their mission.

Shiawassee Arts Center - SMARTS Program

Shiawassee Mobile Arts for Seniors (SMARTS) improves the quality of life for Shiawassee County nursing home residents by providing them professionally conducted art activities and cultural programs. Residents who participate in this program benefit through the enjoyment of the experiences, positive impact on their sense of purpose, and help with eye-hand coordination, cognitive abilities and concentration. Residents learn new skills which gives them a sense of pride in their accomplishments. Classes average 10-20 residents at a time so each individual is able to receive personal attention. This program serves up to 5,760 residents a year. Our donation of $21,100 (final total) will support their mission.

Pat’s Place- Adult Social Center for Memory Care

Pat's Place is an adult day care center, located in Corunna, MI 48817. Pat’s Place offers a peaceful environment for mild and moderate dementia clients to spend the day in a social setting. Adult day care is a positive way to give caregivers respite by providing a center where elderly parents can be taken for a couple of hours or the entire day and picked back up later. The day programs include social activities, meals medication assistance and general elderly supervision. Our donation of $21,500.00 (final total) will support their mission.

Voices for Children Child Advocacy

Voices for Children Advocacy Center is dedicated to serving the child victims and families of child abuse in Shiawassee County and enhancing the lives of all children through treatment, education, and by increasing community awareness. The center serves as a voice and an advocate for child victims of abuse and neglect and their families (including human trafficking). Voices for Children Advocacy Center works to intervene the alarming number of children who are victims of abuse by educating, empowering, and enlightening the community, school-aged children, and parents about prevention factors. Voices for Children leads the community in responding to victims of child abuse violence and works to break the cycle of abuse via prevention, and intervention programming, as well as community education. Voices for Children is dedicated to building healthy relationships and provides a continuum of services for persons of all ages who have been, or are at risk of being, victims of child abuse or neglect. Voices for Children’s model is grounded in a strengths-based, empowerment philosophy and incorporates best practices and evidence-based strategies. All services are completely free to the family. Voices for Children Advocacy Center creates a vital link between community services and victims of child abuse. Our donation of $21,500.00 (final total) will support their mission.

Lainsgburg Clothesline

The mission of The Clothesline is two fold. The first goal is to provide high quality, gently used clothing to the community at low cost and to those in need for free. The second goal is to provide needed funding for local charitable projects by returning all profits from the resale of donated clothing back to the community. Our donation will be used to improve the plumbing, electrical, furnace and insulation at the Laingsburg outreach center.  The Clothesline and Connection will expand their offerings to include free tutoring as a result of the impact Covid has had on our youth and education.  The Laingsburg Clothesline has been serving Shiawassee County since 2001 with clean, gently used clothing for low or no cost. Our donation of $21,900.00 (final total) will support their mission.

Pregnancy Resource Center Shiawassee

The mission of The Pregnancy Resource Center of Shiawassee County is to demonstrate the compassion of Jesus Christ and provide pregnancy related services that support life for both the mother and child. This organization works with local families to provide education and resources through their journey. The center has a resale shop which is open to the community. The resale shop has baby clothes, blankets, bottles, cribs, chairs and much more. The center hopes to use the funds received for an ultrasound machine, copy machine, client transportation and the purchase of formula and diapers.

SHIAWASSEE FAMILY YMCA

The Shiawassee Family YMCA is committed to strengthening the community they serve. They are proud of our diverse community and are passionate about being a positive force for good. Over the years, they've made changes to meet the needs of our growing community. But one thing has stayed the same: their Mission - For Youth Development, For Healthy Living, For Social Responsibility. The Shiawassee Family YMCA is committed to nurturing the potential of children through Youth Development, improving our community's health and well-being by promoting Healthy Living, and fostering a sense of Social Responsibility by providing opportunities to give back and support our neighbors. Laura Archer gave the winning presentation for the YMCA to extend scholarships to children and families who are most impacted by the current pandemic. As the YMCA ramps up their summer and fall schedules, our donation of $22,400.00 will support the Y’s mission .

Lebowsky Center for Performing Arts

The Lebowsky Center for Performing Arts has a rich history that carries on the legacy of Joseph Lebowsky who opened The Capitol Theater in 1926 as a “boon to the neighborhood.”  From humble beginnings in the 1930s, to the eventual founding of a regular theater group in the 1950s, over 350 shows have been performed through the stages of our history welcoming actors of all ages. In an effort to help sustain this Owosso Landmark during “Covid TImes”, our members voted overwhelmingly to support this theater. The Lebowsky Center for Performing Arts, normally produces 4 musicals and 2 plays each season, and hosts a variety of other performing artists to expand the cultural offerings to the community and beyond.  In addition the Lebowsky Center for Performing Arts in home to STAGES, a year-round performing arts education program.  As a nonprofit organization, the Lebowsky Center for Performing Arts is honored to play a part in the cultural and economic growth of Owosso. Donations after our final check collection was $22,300.00

Shiawassee Hope

Shiawassee Hope will provide funding for the LiNC Food Pantry, the Impact Center food pantry, and expand safe outdoor play options at Pleasant Valley Trailer Park. Shiawassee Hope is our first non-profit to win the vote of our membership for the second time. Donation after final checks collected: $23,200.00.

The mission of The Arc Michigan is to ensure that people with Developmental Disabilities are valued in order that they and their families can participate fully in and contribute to their community. The vision of The Arc Michigan is that all people realize and fulfill their dreams of having employment, education, meaningful relationships, and living independently within their community.

Homeless Angels

Homeless Angels is a Christian based street ministry with a goal to find, befriend and buildup those who are less fortunate. Their mission is to rebuild and restore faith in humanity through innovative ideas, programs and events with the main goal of involving the community in REAL change for people that are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Funds received from 100+ Women Who Care of the Greater Owosso Area will be used to create a commercial kitchen in the Owosso Shelter. Actual donation after all checks collected: $23,800.00.

Winning Presentation February 2019

Shiawassee Goodfellows

Shiawassee Goodfellows provides new warm clothing for under-served school aged children in Shiawassee County. They have assisted 17,741 children since 1932 and 100% of their donations go directly to purchasing new clothing. The funds raised from our group will allow Goodfellows to expand their mission to include purchasing new shoes as well as increase the amount spent on each child.

Shiawassee County Humane Society

Shiawassee County Humane Society provides caring solutions for the unmet needs of the local pet population. This shelter is home to more than meets the eye. In fact, they have over 100 "guests" on a daily basis! While their main facility mostly houses dogs and cats, they occasionally have rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, and more. There's a whole bevy of loving animals waiting to meet their family today!

Shiawassee Free Medical Clinic

The Shiawassee Free Medical Clinic  is a non-profit, free primary care medical clinic for people without health insurance. The clinic is located on the north side of Memorial Hospital, in the King Street Professional Building. Among the services the clinic offers are general assessment, blood pressure reading, diabetic testing, X-rays and education programs.

Winning Presentation January 2018

The Safe Center is a nonprofit domestic and sexual abuse counseling service and shelter.  The money received will be used to fund operations and support a possible expansion of community outreach education and prevention efforts.  The shelter provides emergency housing and teaches clients about healtyhy relationships.  Safe Center relies exclusively on grants, docations and volunteers.

Winning Presentation for September 2017

Hospice House of Shiawassee was our winning September presentation.  Their mission is to make the final days of life as comfortable as possible for both their guests (patients) and family members.  This Hospice House offers 24 hour staffing, private rooms, kitchen facilities, chapel, and memorial garden.  Funds from this donation will primarily be used to renovate and insulate the sun room for year-round use. Actual donation after all checks collected: $21,100.00.

RESPITE VOLUNTEERS OF SHIAWASSEE.  

Many frail and physically challenged adults in our community struggle daily to maintain their independence. A trained Respite Volunteer can make a tremendous difference in their lives and help them to remain independent at home.

Winning Presentation for February 2017

Shiawassee Hope was founded in October 2012. Their first project was to create a community center in Pleasant Valley Trailer Park located on S. M 52 in Owosso, Michigan.  Shiawassee Hope is working in at least five spaces: Pleasant Valley Impact Center, Lincoln Alternative Ed High School, Shiawassee Drug Court, Walls of Warmth Shelter, and their office located at 502 E. Main Street where they meet people referred from other agencies and organizations.  Our February Winning Presentation was awarded to kick start the Lincoln Food Pantry.  The food pantry will be ran by Lincoln Students and open to the public.  Fresh vegetables will be grown on-site for the food pantry and community.

Baby Pantry 

Baby Pantry was awarded $15,100 from our February 29, 2016 meeting. Baby Pantry is a partnership between the Shiawassee County Council for Child Abuse Prevention and First Baptist Church of Owosso. The organization supports parents by helping meet basic needs for their infants, toddlers and preschoolers. The Baby Pantry accepts new or slightly used items including maternity clothing, infant and toddler clothing, baby furniture, equipment, books and more. Items such as diapers, formula and used clothing are typically available.
